Accounting/Finance interns assist their department with monitoring and support of finances in both Headquarters and international field offices. College students, recent graduates and graduate students with classes in accounting, finance or business are preferred for these positions. Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, interns can expect their tasks to include:

  • Processing expense reports, including payment requests, credit card reports and cash advance reconciliations;
  • Preparing and recording financial data from expense reports in IJM's accounting system;
  • Assisting in the review of monthly financial reports for completeness, accuracy and compliance with policy;
  • Researching various regulatory and procedural matters for the finance department; and

Aftercare Interns assist Aftercare staff with tasks related to IJM’s Aftercare work around the world. Candidates who have completed or are pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work are preferred. This internship is best for those interested in gaining an experience in macro-level social work; it does not provide clinical experience. Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, Aftercare Interns can expect their tasks to include:

  • Researching and preparing memorandums on best practices, policies and procedures regarding casework-specific aftercare issues;
  • Developing continuing education modules for IJM Field Office Aftercare staff;
  • Providing support for the Survivor Scholarship Program; and
  • Participating in departmental and general IJM administrative support.

The Corporate Security team is in charge of the safety and security of IJM personnel and clients worldwide. Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, Corporate Security interns can expect their tasks to include:

  • Compiling daily briefs for senior leaders based on open source news sites which summarize key current events around the world that could impact IJM’s operations;
  • Assisting in coordinating course logistics for specialized safety and security trainings;
  • Researching and preparing memoranda regarding threat assessments and crisis response plans;
  • Tracking and reporting on security developments in regions of the world where IJM has offices;
  • Completing research assignments assigned by Director of Corporate Security to provide in-depth reports of latest safety and security threats to IJM's work;
  • Assist in tracking the Field Offices' compliance with IJM Security Manual policies and procedures through check-ins with Field Office security personnel
  • Assisting with the management of IJM’s crisis response system; and

Field Operations interns assist Field Operations staff with tasks related to IJM's casework around the world. College students, recent graduates and graduate students with degrees in International Relations or Political Science are preferred for these positions. Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred for our Latin America region. Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, interns can expect their tasks to include:

  • Researching and preparing memoranda regarding country-specific issues, current events, department policies and procedures;
  • Preparing support materials for presentations and reports;
  • Compiling country or topic-related briefings, including background research, internal reports, relevant travel information and contact data;
  • Assisting with the analysis of monthly Field Office achievements and results; and
  • Participating in departmental and general IJM administrative support.

The Global Advancement Division fuels IJM’s mission by engaging supporters globally to give, advocate, and pray to end slavery and violence. The Global Advancement Operations Intern will be responsible for supporting the division’s global teams. Global Brand & Communications interns assist social media projects that help further the movement of IJM, raise public awareness of IJM's mission, ongoing work and fundraising efforts. Although tasks may vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, interns can expect their tasks to include:

  • Assisting in the social media content development process, writing posts, analyzing content and executing on tactics to acquire and engage more social followers;
  • Working with IJM's outside creative agency to help execute high-profile organizational campaign projects - holistically owning and running with specific projects;
  • Assisting the Global Brand Experience Coordinator in coordinating production of brand campaign assets, helping to ensure top-notch creative and on-time delivery;
  • Pulling and compiling social media and brand campaign impact reports;
  • Directly managing the day-to-day operations of the customer service portion of IJM's social media strategy - including @replies, post replies and DMs; and

Global Business Solutions interns assist the Global Business Solutions team with tasks and projects related to IJM’s strategic planning, internal reporting, financial planning/analysis, grants management and procurement.   • Assisting with project management of new initiatives, to include creating presentations and graphics, coordinating with stakeholders and helping to resolve challenges;
  • Assisting with the roll-up and presentation of organizational progress reports for IJM’s Senior Leadership Team;
  • Helping to develop and implement ways to track, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Global Business Solutions team’s activities;

The Global Partnerships team fuels IJM’s mission by engaging actors from government, the private sector, and the global church for funding, advocacy, and prayer to end slavery and violence. The Global Partnerships Intern will be responsible for supporting the team’s efforts to identify and cultivate these relationships, pursue funding opportunities, and promote IJM as an anti-slavery thought leader around the world. Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, the Global Partnerships intern can expect his/her tasks to include:

  • Conducting research on current and upcoming funding opportunities;
  • Preparing and presenting summary briefs on leading research studies to further IJM’s thought leadership strategy;
  • Contributing to the proposal development process through the creation and refinement of proposal templates and resources;
  • Supporting the Program Coordinator with meeting logistics and correspondence with stakeholders;

Global Systems interns join a special implementation team (called “AMOS”) in the Global Technology Solutions (GTS) department. The AMOS team is a diverse group of project/change managers and technical systems analysts, tasked with developing and deploying IJM’s new cloud-based systems to IJM offices around the world. Critical to furthering IJM’s mission, GS interns will get hands-on experience with cutting edge technologies, change management, and project management. Although specific tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, interns can expect their tasks to include:

  • Assisting the AMOS team with change management efforts, including the development of surveys, focus groups, communiques, job aids, training videos, etc;
  • Contributing to agile project management rhythms, including SCRUM boards/meetings;
  • Supporting the systems directly through process mapping, user story documentation, requirements gathering, and testing;
  • Providing support to staff traveling and liaising with IJM’s global staff on system design, testing, and implementation; and
  • Participating in departmental and general IJM administrative support.

Global Technology Solutions interns participate in the full running of a global IT group supporting local staff and all the field offices. IJM maintains their Global Systems and Infrastructure centrally from the DC office. Although specific tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, GTS interns can expect to focus on one of three areas and their tasks to include:

 

Cybersecurity:

  • Reviewing antivirus data, IS tickets and other logs;
  • Correlating data to identify potential cyber incidents;
  • Reviewing open source cyber intelligence for potential malware and virus threats;
  • Assisting in development of data security policies and training;
  • Providing daily cyber intelligence for incorporation into threat reporting;
  • Assisting in review, design and development of IS contingency operations/disaster recovery; and
  • Participating in departmental and general IJM administrative support.

Helpdesk:

  • Handling user issues on helpdesk;
  • Building of new laptops/desktops for deployment;
  • Writing knowledge base articles to help users in self-service helpdesk; and
  • Participating in departmental and general IJM administrative support.
Software Engineering:
  • Assisting the Casework Tracking Management System development team as part of the CTMS product development;
  • Actively participating in a team environment to code and support custom applications;
  • Assisting in managing scope of projects and related change controls;
  • Assisting in preparing specifications for solutions;
  • Participating in the development of mobile applications for iPhone/iPad, Android, and BlackBerry mobile devices;

Human Resources interns assist their department with research and support of various initiatives in recruiting, training and HR General practices. Investigations interns assist with tasks related to IJM's investigations and law enforcement development operations. Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, interns can expect their tasks to include:

  • Creating and maintaining systems for data organization, storage and presentation;

  • Updating the international police training program database;
  • Researching specialized investigative equipment, country-specific issues and investigative procedures; and

The General Counsel’s (GC) responsibility is to provide solution-driven legal counsel and services to enable IJM, including its foreign branch offices and the broader IJM global partnership, to carry out its mission in compliance with applicable laws and at an acceptable level of legal risk. People Development interns will work with their department to complete a variety of tasks designed to serve IJM’s VP of Spiritual Formation and IJM’s staff as a whole. As the internship supports a number of positions and duties, it will often involve completing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Although specific tasks will vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, interns can generally expect their tasks to include:

  • Assisting in the organization and execution of prayer retreats and other all-staff events;
  • Assisting in the preparation of meeting materials and logistical set up (including meal coordination, procuring necessary supplies & technological set up) for VP of Spiritual Formation and other executive-led meetings/initiatives;
  • Preparing for IJM’s daily staff prayer time, including recording prayer requests and coordinating with staff members as needed;
  • Researching and coordinating both domestic and international travel and accommodations for members of the Executive Department;
  • Conducting research and compiling briefing materials for executive-led initiatives and cross-departmental issues and projects; and

The Program and Strategy Intern is responsible for supporting key aspects of People Operation’s horizontal delivery, ensuring projects and initiatives are well-timed, executed flawlessly, and designed to delight employees around the world.   • Providing administrative assistance for global projects assigned by the Director of Program and Strategy or the Program Coordinator;

The Program Design, Research and Evaluation Unit plays a vital role in IJM’s mission to protect the poor from violence. The Unit provides leadership, expertise, guidance, and technical support to IJM on program design, monitoring, evaluation, and research. Its core objectives are to design plausible and feasible programs; to design and lead high quality research; to provide leadership to IJM’s global DM&E staff; to provide essential guidance, process, and standards; and to disseminate IJM’s programming and research work to internal and external audiences. Candidates who are pursuing any graduate degree with a concentration on research design, evaluation methods, and indicator development are preferred. The internship is best for those interested in gaining experience at a macro-level; the intern will not conduct data collection, research, or evaluation work directly. The intern can expect tasks to include:

  • Researching and preparing memorandums on indicators and indices used to measure various phenomena;
  • Performing analysis of datasets; 
  • Securing data for and updating internal dashboards; 
  • Developing and drafting Standard Operating Procedures and other guidance documents; and
  • Participating in team and general IJM administrative support.
