    The Director of Security Operations will lead IJM’s effort to mitigate risks and enhance the safety and security of our staff members and property. The position will manage corporate and operational security, as well as identify, evaluate, mitigate and respond to threats to a global organization operating in high risk environments. The position will oversee the Regional Security Directors. The position is based at IJM headquarters in the Arlington, VA area and reports to the Global Director of Corporate Security.

    Responsibilities

    Corporate Security
    • Develop and implement a centralized security structure (including policies, protocols, staff and resources) that will ensure the safety of staff and property throughout the global organization;
    • Partner with Field Office Directors to develop a context-specific security structure (including policies, protocols, staff and resources) that will be employed in each particular Field Office;
    • Design and drive implementation of a context-specific security structure (including policies, protocols, staff and resources) that will be employed in IJM’s Headquarters;
    • Partner with the leadership of the Global Technology Solutions department to develop a comprehensive cybersecurity structure (including policies, protocols, staff and resources) that will protect our systems, network and data;
    • Assist with the selection, sourcing and delivery of staff training and technical equipment needed to implement IJM’s centralized and context-specific security structures;
    • Implement ongoing, periodic and event-initiated reviews of resourcing of and compliance with IJM’s central and context-specific security structures;
    • Provide expert guidance and consultation to Field Office Directors and their Security Staff on the development and implementation of action plans to ensure compliance with the organization’s central and context-specific security structures;
    • Engage with global partners to provide consultative recommendations to IJM Partner Office leadership as to the development of security structures to enhance the safety of staff and property in those particular offices; and
    • Partner with Field Office Directors, Justice Operations Department and other Headquarters Departments to change the culture of acceptance of Safety and Security throughout the organization.

     

    Operational Safety
    • Partner with Field Office Directors and Justice Operations Operational leadership to implement context-specific operational safety structures (including policies, protocols, staff and resources) that will mitigate threats created by each Field Office’s particular casework operations;
    • Assist in the development and implementation of context-specific operational safety structures (including policies, protocols, staff and resources) that will mitigate threats created by Headquarters activities (e.g., trips to the field, donor events);
    • Assists in the selection, sourcing and delivery of staff training and technical equipment needed to implement IJM’s operational safety structures;
    • Provide expert guidance and consultation to Field Office Directors and their Security Staff on the development and implementation of action plans to ensure compliance with IJM’s operational safety structures;
    • Develop tools and standards conducting Security Risk Assessments; and
    • Work with Regional Security Manager to train and develop their skills in the use of these tools.

     

    Situational Awareness
    • Assist in the development of and implementation of a system to identify and evaluate threats to the security and safety of IJM staff members and property throughout the world;
    • Develop and deliver a structured training program throughout IJM operations field operations on Situational Awareness, Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT), Surveillance detection and mitigation, First Aid and Driver training;
    • Partner with the leadership of the Investigations and Law Enforcement Development team to maximize the utility of IJM’s Operations center in gathering intelligence relating to current, potential and developing threats to the safety and security of IJM staff and property;
    • Conduct preliminary, ongoing, periodic and event-initiated assessments of the safety and security of IJM’s facilities;
    • Conduct preliminary, ongoing, periodic and event-initiated assessments of the safety and security of the deployment of third party nationals;
    • Conduct preliminary, ongoing, periodic and event-initiated assessments of the safety and security of national staff members as to work-related threats;
    • Ensure that IJM’s Organizational leadership is provided with a daily update on threats to the safety and security of its staff and property; and
    • Brief the Global Director of Corporate Security on a weekly basis as to security-related threats to the organization and other security-related developments.

     

    Crisis Response
    • Assist in the development of detailed contingency plans for responding to safety and security crises that may materialize in relation to IJM’s field work;
    • Conduct the training and equipping of Field Office Directors and their staff to effectively implement IJM’s safety and security-related contingency plans in the event that such contingencies are realized;
    • Provide expert guidance and consultative support as appropriate to those implementing IJM’s safety and security-related contingency plans in the event that such contingencies are realized; and
    • Assist in the development and implementation of detailed contingency plans for responding to safety and security crises that may materialize in relation to work conducted at IJM’s Headquarters.

     

    Management and Leadership
    • Foster a culture of spiritual health and integrity by setting an example of mature, authentic Christian discipleship;
    • Responsible for supervising and leading a team, including hiring, training, developing and managing performance;
    • Manage and ensure spending of departments’ allocated funds in accordance with IJM’s budgetary and stewardship principles and policies; and
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, IJM policies and best practices.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in relevant field preferred; or equivalent combination of experience and/or education;
    • Minimum of ten years’ experience managing security operations for organizations with multiple offices outside of the United States;
    • Minimum of five years’ experience successfully supervising teams with diverse technical skills and responsibilities;
    • Minimum of three years’ experience managing safety operations for organizations with multiple offices outside of the United States;
    • Minimum of three years’ experience running an Operations Center with global reach;
    • Minimum of three years’ experience providing leadership in crisis response situations;
    • Significant experience developing, monitoring and evaluating security protocols;
    • Significant experience conducting threat analyses and risk evaluations;
    • Experience with multi-level electronic security systems;
    • Effective and professional communication skills that demonstrate tact while ensuring security protocols are upheld; and
    • Significant experience in development and delivery of Security Operational Training skills to include Situational Awareness, HEAT, Hostile Surveillance detection and mitigation, first aid and driver training.
