The Global Director, Business Development will lead IJM’s engagement with corporations, specific to IJM’s work regarding consulting and partnering with companies to address slavery, forced labor, and trafficking in their supply chains. This leadership role will be critical in deepening IJM’s existing partnerships and will also create and implement a global strategy to expand IJM’s corporate partnerships across the globe. The position will provide innovative and strategic leadership to assist IJM in achieving aggressive annual revenue growth from corporations.

This position is based at IJM Headquarters in the Washington, DC area reports to the Vice President of Global Partnerships.


Facilitate deeper engagement of current partners

  • In close collaboration with Justice Operations, steward IJM’s current corporate partnerships through meaningful and regular engagement;
  • Work with partners to identify opportunities for deeper collaboration and the expansion of existing programs or new initiatives;
  • Identify opportunities to showcase IJM’s corporate partnership work at corporate thought leadership events in addition to IJM sponsored events and media engagement; and
  • Collaborate closely with IJM Regional and Field teams to lead regular update meetings with corporate partners and explore new opportunities.

Build prospective partner pipeline

  • In collaboration with IJM’s Research and Prospect team, build a pipeline for prospective corporate partnerships;
  • Identify strategic external engagements to profile IJM’s work among corporations; and
  • Plan and execute IJM sponsored workshops or meetings to profile IJM’s theory of change and programming to existing or new partners.

Build and Implement IJM’s Strategy to Increase Corporate Giving to IJM

  • In line with IJM’s global strategy, develop a strategy to increase corporate giving to IJM by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with new corporations;
  • Identify opportunities to profile IJM expert speakers at corporate events and provide expert coaching, speech preparation support, and input for IJM leaders as they present to corporate audiences; 
  • Assist in the development of new programs that address targeted supply chains with the ultimate goal of reducing the prevalence of trafficking, slavery, and child labor;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the proposal development team to ensure that corporate partner interests are reflected in the development of compelling proposals and reports;
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships across the organization and with other members of the IJM Global Partnerships team;
  • Analyze trends in corporate giving to ensure that we are on target to meet financial goals and that we are maximizing opportunities; and
  • Strategically manage a cost-effective budget and expenses related to fundraising.

Thought Leadership

  • Provide expert input to the VP of Global Partnerships, the Senior Vice President of Global Advancement, and the CEO regarding corporate context and IJM’s strategic engagement with the corporate sector;
  • Foster a culture of spiritual health and integrity by setting an example of mature, authentic Christian discipleship;
  • Manage and ensure spending of departments’ allocated funds in accordance with IJM’s budgetary and stewardship principles and policies; and
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, IJM policies, and best practices.


Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education;
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in partnership development, implementing fundraising plans to achieve an annual revenue target or quota of at least $1,000,000. 
  • A minimum of five years of management experience;
  • Experience in international development; 
  • Ability to build relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and styles, 
  • Experience working with contacts at Fortune 500 companies, including presenting to senior-level decision makers and influencers across business units and functions;
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in developing corporate partnerships from the ground up;
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines through with a deep understanding of time management and organization; and
  • Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills.
