  • The Need

    International Justice Mission’s (IJM) in-house creative agency supports the high volume ideation, production and implementation of US and international marketing campaigns, fundraising efforts, and branding projects.

     

    As a Graphic Designer, you will play an active role in bringing stories to life via excellent visual communication in the form of campaign identities, interactive design, print collateral, films, reports and more. Through working with visual and written content organization-wide, you will help influence and innovate the way IJM communicates the work of justice to a global audience. Through management of all of IJM’s print materials you will ensure that pieces are delivered on time and on budget with an appropriate level of quality.

     

    This position is based at IJM Headquarters in the Washington, DC area and reports to the Director of Creative Services.

    Responsibilities

    Design Exceptional Creative Pieces

    • Lead the creative development, design and execution of projects that include print, collateral, signage, displays, presentations, interactive and digital media;
    • Interpret client needs through strategy and conceptual development to communicate messages with high visual impact;
    • Ensure creative consistency and adherence to IJM’s brand identity;
    • Work with the marketing team in the design and implementation of new targeted campaigns;
    • Design innovative concepts and content for multiple mediums (traditional web, web applications and mobile), taking into consideration the interaction nuances and advantages of each;
    • Design and implement elegant user experiences based on a strong understanding of our technology environment and requirements, latest web standards, and project objectives;
    • Train and oversee Graphic Design Intern; and
    • Manage archive of design files.

    Print Production

    • Work directly with printers to ensure that projects are on track; check color proofs, evaluate all color corrections, and attend press checks as needed; and
    • Advise teams on alternate print materials, methods, ideas and optimal ways to leverage production technology that provide value engineered solutions to their needs and budgets.

    Requirements

    Required Skills and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in design or graphic arts;
    • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in graphic design;
    • An exceptional design portfolio that demonstrates an excellent understanding of design principles, information design, typography, photography, social media, and integrated campaigns;
    • Demonstrated understanding of marketing and communication strategies and how targeted design can fulfill organizational needs;
    • Ability to anticipate team work needs, ask questions when needed, and take direction from team members;
    • Ability to present and communicate ideas clearly and compellingly;
    • Strong project management experience; 
    • Knowledge of printing processes (digital and offset) and finishing processes.
    • Experience negotiating printing and mailing specifications and costs with external vendors;
    • High proficiency in industry-leading design software tools (including Adobe Creative Suite); and
    • Demonstrated ability to meet demanding deadlines and manage tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
