The Program Design, Research and Evaluation Unit plays a vital role in IJM’s mission to protect the poor from violence. The Unit provides leadership, expertise, guidance, and technical support to IJM on program design, monitoring, evaluation, and research. Its core objectives are to design plausible and feasible programs; to design and lead high quality research; to provide leadership to IJM’s global DM&E staff; to provide essential guidance, process, and standards; and to disseminate IJM’s programming and research work to internal and external audiences. The Unit is seeking a Data Science intern to support the Unit’s Director of Data Science. Candidates who are pursuing any graduate degree, have an interest in and experience of working with datasets, and have good programming skills are preferred. The intern can expect tasks to include:

  • Performing analysis of datasets;
  • Building data models and tools; 
  • Create, review, and edit data products, including data visualizations;
  • Develop training materials and user guides; 
  • Participating in team and general IJM administrative support.


IJM's Internship opportunities vary every session and look different in every office. Interns generally will assist a specific person or team. The positions involve the described tasks and responsibilities as well as other relevant duties that may be assigned by the Field Office Director or Supervisor.


General Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree is required for all internships and fellowships except any Washington, DC Internships (Bachelor's degree must be in progress for DC Internships and applicants need to have completed at least three years of undergraduate study).
