The Need

Note: Interns and Fellows are required to attend an Orientation Week in Washington, D.C. beginning on January 8th. 

 

International Justice Mission (IJM) is seeking a Criminal Intelligence Fellow to directly support IJM’s Criminal Intelligence Center. The Fellow will assist with the collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of actionable information to IJM Field Offices and partners to directly enhance investigations and law enforcement development. Using information from multiple sources, the Fellow will examine criminal network patterns and build profiles of suspected perpetrators and their illicit activities in order to help detect, respond to, and prevent violence against the poor. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated interest in intelligence collection and analysis; be a skilled critical thinker; possess strong communication skills; be able to thrive in a dynamic environment; and be passionate about seeking justice.

Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the Fellowship, Fellows can expect their tasks to include:

  • Working with the Director of Intelligence and Senior Intelligence Analyst to implement appropriate processes, policies, and protocols for collection, analysis, and dissemination of information;
  • Collaborating with field offices to develop focused collection requirements that enhance their investigative work with local law enforcement partners; 
  • Producing timely, responsive, and quality intelligence products that informs key decision-makers at HQ and meets the investigative needs of Field Offices;
  • Collecting and collating information and data from a variety of different sources;
  • Analyzing information to identify potential persons of interest, locations of internet, and patterns of criminal activity;
  • Researching country-specific issues; 
  • Mapping geographic ‘hot spots’ of criminal activity;
  • Preparing support materials for trainings, presentations and reports;
  • Creating and maintaining systems for data organization, storage and presentation; and
  • Participating in departmental and general IJM administrative support, to sometimes include deployment prep support.

 

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 1-2 years experience as an intelligence analyst or research analyst in the military, government, law enforcement, non-governmental organization, or think-tank sectors;
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Intelligence Studies, Security Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field;
  • Extensive knowledge of the intelligence cycle; 
  • Advanced research skills;
  • Demonstrated analytical capability of complex data with proven record of effective products;
  • Objectivity, integrity, and intellectual honesty;
  • High level of proficiency in computer and technical skills;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication (can make complex, technical concepts easy to understand);

Organizational Information

  • Position based at IJM Headquarters in Washington D.C. 
  • Position reports to the Senior Intelligence Analyst.
