The Need

International Justice Mission has a powerful story to tell to a world that is both overwhelmed by and under-informed about the reality of everyday violence against the poor. We have an opportunity to show a global audience that justice for the poor is possible.

IJM’s Global Advancement Resources team guides how the organization talks about IJM’s work by sourcing compelling content from around the world and crafting that material into beautiful stories, fundraising proposals, organization-wide messaging and other strategic pieces. In doing so, the team equips a rapidly growing organization with the communication tools it needs to raise revenue, create policy change, and catalyze prayer support. The Temporary Communications Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the entire team of Communications Managers to efficiently and joyfully advance the mission of IJM. You will gain a deep insight into the behind-the-scenes work that enables miraculous stories of rescue, restoration and transformation to be amplified for a global audience.

This temporary position is based in Washington, DC, and reports to and works alongside the Senior Program Manager of Global Advancement Resources. The position is targeted to start October 1, 2017 and run through mid- to late-December 2017.


Support Global Communications Projects

  • Support the roll-out of a new technology to record and track progress on fundraising resources that fuel IJM’s mission. Key responsibilities will include coordinating trainings with IJM advancement staff in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Europe; developing a how-to-guide for global advancement teams; and evaluating user satisfaction with the tool;
  • Oversee the intake of fundraising resource requests; shepherd projects through writing, review and approval stages to ensure deadlines are not missed;
  • Support build-out of a database that captures annual grant application and reporting deadlines in 2018. Responsibilities include arranging meetings with 30+ advancement staff located in offices around the world; documenting deadlines, donor information and other relevant details; and ensuring data is accurately captured in the database; and
  • Maximize global, team-wide collaboration and efficiency across regions and Communications Managers by documenting best practices, standard language and go-to resources.


Develop Communications Resources

  • Work with the South Asia Communications Manager to prepare fundraising proposals and reports for key donors and constituents. Responsibilities may include gathering relevant content and crafting audience-appropriate language in line with IJM’s brand. Responsibilities may also include identifying photos and designing visually-appealing resources to share updates about IJM’s work in South Asia;
  • Work with Regional Communications Managers to develop a cohesive set of reports that highlight what IJM accomplished through global field office teams in 2017;
  • Develop a database of costs levels that represent IJM’s work in the field and clearly portray the impact for financial support; 
  • To support regular training and onboarding of new staff across IJM’s global advancement teams, develop on-brand materials that will equip staff to share about IJM’s work with donors, church leaders, advocates, volunteers and other constituents; and
  • Other projects in support of South Asia and global communications, as assigned.


Required Skills

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience, including experience writing, coordinating projects and supporting a global team;
  • Experience supporting fundraising, advocacy or communication
  • Demonstrated experience managing and executing a variety of projects with minimal oversight;
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment and adapting as new priorities arise;
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex information in a simple, concise manner; and
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office required; experience with SharePoint strongly preferred.
